For the medinas

Clothes for cities & medinas

  • Comfortable, modest clothing for mosques, medersas and mausoleums (shoulders and knees covered).
  • Light layers: medinas are explored on foot and the weather shifts between morning and afternoon.
  • A light jacket or thin raincoat: Chefchaouen and the Rif can bring rain.
  • Comfortable, broken-in closed shoes: you'll walk a lot on cobbled streets.

— Your Xaluca team

For wandering

For getting lost in the alleys

  • Sunglasses, sunscreen and a cap for the brightest hours.
  • A crossbody bag or small backpack with a zip, comfy and secure in the souks.
  • A camera or phone with plenty of space: Fez and Chefchaouen are pure photography.
  • Moisturiser and a reusable bottle.

— Your Xaluca team

Little details

Details that make a difference

  • Cash in dirhams for souks, tips and small purchases.
  • A light scarf: handy for the sun and to cover up in sacred places.
  • Comfortable socks: some visits are done barefoot.
  • Patience and a taste for bargaining: it's part of the souk experience.

Fez · Morocco's cultural capital

Today we discover Fez el-Bali, the ancient medina of Fez — one of the best-preserved in the Arab world. With a local guide we walk medieval alleys packed with artisan workshops, mosques, palaces, Koranic schools and traditional souks. Fez is the country's most spiritual and cultural imperial city. The visit is entirely on foot — vehicles are forbidden in this UNESCO medina. We see how traditional neighbourhoods are organised around mosque, fountain, hammam, oven and Koranic school. We also visit the traditional tanneries and climb to a panoramic viewpoint. Dinner and overnight in a medina riad or 4★ hotel.

A postcard from TangierBetween two shores

Hello from the north,

From Tangier you can see two continents at once: the strait and, on the other side, Spain. We strolled the white medina overlooking the sea and the walls of Asilah with their colourful murals. Northern Morocco smells of salt and adventure.

Between two shores,

A postcard from ChefchaouenBlue labyrinth

Dear friend,

Chefchaouen captured us with its blue labyrinth and its kind people, offering us tea on every corner. Then, in Fez, we happily got lost in the medina among craftsmen and the scent of spices. The north is authentic, peaceful and so welcoming.

With a thousand postcards in my head,

A postcard from AsilahA taste of the sea

For anyone who loves the sea,

We ended the day watching the sunset over the Atlantic from the walls of Asilah, with music drifting from a nearby café. I didn't expect northern Morocco to be so bright and relaxed. I'm taking the sound of the waves with me.

With a taste of the sea,
